Purpose of the Organization:

Located in every county in Wisconsin, UW-Extension develops practical educational programs tailored to local needs, based on university knowledge and research.

County-based Extension Educators are University of Wisconsin faculty and staff who are experts in agriculture and agribusiness, community and economic development, natural resources, family living and youth development.

Extension county-based educators live and work with the people they serve in communities across the state.  Extension specialists work on UW System campuses where they access current research and knowledge.  Collaboration between county and campus faculty is the hallmark of Cooperative Extension in Wisconsin.

Cooperative Extension partners with local, county, state and federal government to address public issues.  Educators plan and carry out programs with a wide array of community partners – volunteers, businesses and educational groups and advisors.

Using state of the art technology, Wisconsin’s Cooperative Extension brings educational programs to even the most remote part of the state.  Communication and computer networks link county Extension Offices and UW campus departments with other universities, state and federal agencies and other sources of knowledge and information around the world.

Service we provide:

      1.   Family Living Education, which includes, budget counseling, parenting, food preservation and preparation, and housing concerns.

      2.   Nutrition Education for low income and the elderly in the community.

      3.   Youth Education, most notable is the 4H programs, after school programs and youth issues educational programs.

      4.   Agriculture and Agribusiness Education, which includes, crop production, crop and livestock marketing, farm business arrangements and rural landowner concerns.

      5.   Community Resource Education, which includes, natural resources, horticulture, small business and community development educational programs and concerns.

Volunteer Opportunities through our organization:

1.   The 4H program is the largest volunteer organization in UWEX, for youth and adults.  Background checks are required for all adult volunteers, but the opportunities are wide ranging.

2.   Extension through their educational mission comes in contact with a wide range of organization and partners, who at times are looking for volunteers.  So the opportunities are always changing.
